We make on of the most prized products in Indonesia, which is the organic Forest (Arenga Palm) Sugar. A pride of the people of Banten province, our sugar became worthy as an exemplary for other farmer groups throughout the country.
It is called forest sugar, because the plants are wildly grown in the forest. It is not a monoculture plantation. The plants are grown amongst the others in the forest. It’s good for the nature biodiversity. We don’t use any chemical pesticides or fertilizers, because we don’t need them and it is prohibited by the cultural norms.
The forest lies in the mountains, far from the polluted city. Part of our farmer community is the people of Baduy tribe. The tribe is famously known for their upmost respect to nature. Their strict way of life and social norms is mainly build based on how they can treat nature the kindest. You can be assured that if members of the Baduy tribe are willing to be part of our sugar natural plantation, it means that we are doing it in nature-friendly ways. Since it is naturally and wildly grown in the forest, our sugar supply is not as big as other plantation for industrial level. We take only what the nature provides. This also gives us the opportunity to be able to give meticulous care throughout the entire production process.
Compared to the other refined sugars, forest sugar has a slower absorption rate in the body, preventing any unhealthy spikes in blood sugar levels and also providing a gradual release of energy. It has low glycemic index, making it a fabulous alternative to refined sugars or artificial sweeteners.
In addition, forest sugar is naturally rich in minerals including calcium, magnesium, potassium, zinc and iron.
In Indonesia and South East Asian countries, forest (Arenga) sugar is very common to be used as a replacement of refined sugar for food and beverages. Arenga sugar is considered the best sugar for coffee drinks. Most of the Indonesian top coffee shops use this sugar for their drinks.
